FireHouse Design Company is a graphic design studio operated by myself, Carol Ellison Key. 
I also happen to be a professional firefighter and Captain of an engine company in Greensboro, NC. 
When not fighting fires, I specialize mostly in printed materials including logos, brochures, and specialty publications, as well as painting murals for clients both large and small. I’ve had over fifteen years experience as an independent designer. Recently, I’ve gone back to my roots of fine art and enjoy painting in oils. WHO I AM

Not only am I a freelance designer, but also a Shift Commander with the fire department in Greensboro, NC, hence the name of my company. I grew up imagining I’d become a great fine artist but as you can see, I have ventured into many other diverse areas such as becoming a first responder, graphic designer and eventually an artist as well.

I graduated from North Carolina State University School of Design in 1992. I went to work in publishing as Art Director of PC Gamer magazine and The Net Magazine. After a brief relocation to the San Francisco Bay area, I returned to North Carolina and worked as an Associate Creative Director for Coyne Beahm Advertising. I established FireHouse Design Company in 1997 and have been a fire-fighting freelance designer ever since.
